Week 2: Orangeville vs AFC

Franklin Grove -

Entering week 2 0-1 isn't the end of the world, but leaving it 0-2 greatly lowers the odds of your team making the playoffs for the season. Orangeville was reeling off a loss to Aquin in week 1, while AFC was coming off a loss to East Dubuque. Both teams were searching for that first win as former conference opponents now faced each other in crossover action.

Orangeville would get on the board first, as Garret Rodebaugh would punch his way into the endzone on a 2 yard run, and then add the 2 point try to give the Broncos an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

AFC would respond quickly, as Ethan Drew hit Peyton Lanning on a 71 yard TD pass, but the two point try failed, as the Broncos would hold the lead 8-6. Carter Kleckler would push the Bronco lead to 14-6 after he scampered in from 17 yards out, as that lead would hold to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Broncos would up their lead to 20-6 as Jake Doyle connected with Kleckler on a 37 yard TD pass, and that lead would hold as the halftime score. Orangeville would control the third quarter, as Rodebaugh would score twice, from 8 and 9 yards out respectively to push the Bronco lead to 34-6 entering the 4th quarter.

In the 4th quarter, AFC would get on the board for a final time as Drew and Lanning connected again on a 32 yard TD pass. Cameron Thomas would run the 2 point try in to close the gap to 34-14, but Orangeville would close the scoring with one more Rodebaugh TD run to bring the final score to 41-14.

For Orangeville on the night, they would finish with 387 yards of total offense. Garret Rodebaugh would lead that charge with 205 yards rushing and 4 TD. Carter Kleckler would chip in another 102 yards rushing and a TD, plus 66 yards receiving and a TD, while Jake Doyle would finish the night going 2-4 passing for 66 yards with a TD, and have 14 yards rushing.

AFC was led by Peyton Lanning's 102 receiving yards on 2 receptions with 2 TD. Tyson Davidson led the ground attack with 30 yards rushing on 4 attempts, while Ethan Drew was 5-12 passing for 141 yards and 2 TD, with 27 yards rushing.

Next week Orangeville (1-1) will open conference play hosting Galena on Saturday afternoon. AFC (0-2) will go on the road to complete their crossover schedule as they will face Stockton (1-1).
