Amboy Clippers
The Amboy Clippers joined the NUIC in the 2016 season, and entered with high expectations coming from the always tough Three Rivers Conference. The Clippers haven't been able to live up to those expectations so far in the NUIC, finishing each season at 3-6. Entering the 2019 season, the Clippers return a great core of receivers and defensive backs, and will have some linemen and a running back to work with. Replacing one of the best QB's in the conference will be a tall task, but Amboy has the talent to work with.
The expectations for Amboy are not very high, which leaves room for plenty of surprises if Coach Jones can get things turned around. The Clippers have a fighting chance if they can prove to compete with the top teams in the South Division. They will have a tough crossover schedule with Le-Win, and still have conference foes EPC, Forreston, and Aquin on schedule, all teams the Clippers have not been able to get by since joining the NUIC.
The Clippers have made the playoffs 19 times, going 26-18 in school history. In that time they have collected 1 state title and 2 runner-ups, but those runs came in the old 5 class system. The Clippers last made the playoffs in 2014, where they were routed by eventual state champ EPC, in the 1st round. The Clippers have an uphill battle to reach the playoffs again, but Coach Jones is no stranger to success at Amboy. The Clippers open up the 2019 campaign on the road at Du-Pec, a pivotal game for the Clippers to see a playoff opportunity this year.
