Week 8 | Polo vs AFC

Franklin Grove -

Polo came into Friday night's match-up with AFC in a must win game for the Marcos to keep their playoff hopes alive. Brady Webb would get it started early, as he returned the opening kickoff 81 yards to put Polo on top 7-0.

A short while later, it looked as if Polo would take full control of the game early, as Reid Taylor found the end zone from 15 yards out to give Polo a 14-0 just 4:06 into the game.

The Raiders would fight back in the 2nd quarter, as they recovered a Marco fumble, and then Cody Penick found Sawyer Murphy for 20 yard TD pass on a 4th down play from the Marco 20 yard line, cutting the Polo lead to 14-7 at the half.

With under 3 minutes to go in the 3rd, a series of fumbles resulted, and Adam Hart would have the Raiders knocking on the door after a 15 yard run brought him down at the Marco 5 yard line. Caleb Drew would punch it from there, but a missed extra point left the Marcos out in front 14-13 heading to the 4th.

Early in the 4th quarter Polo QB Braiden Soltow found Brady Webb on a 20 yard pass play, and 2 plays later, Soltow pitched the ball to Webb as he went 25 yards to the house to extend the Marco lead to 21-13 with 10:48 to go in the game.

AFC would come right back, and marched down to the Marco 19 yard line, but the Polo defense would push back, and on 3rd and 25 Reid Taylor stepped in front of Adam Hart and intercepted a Penick pass and returned it 64 yards for the final score, resulting in a Polo victory 28-13.

On the night, AFC would outgain the Marcos, as they ran twice as many plays, but it was Polo who would will themselves to victory and pick up that 5th win to become playoff eligible.

Polo will play EPC in the regular season finale needing a victory to secure their trip to the playoffs. With Polo's schedule, it does not look like they will make the field of 32 on their 5 wins alone.
