Week 4 | Aquin vs Polo

Freeport -

Over the course of the last 6 seasons, Polo and Aquin have found themselves battling it out towards the top of the Upstate Conference. As 2017 kicked off, it was Aquin who found themselves as the heavy favorite for the Upstate crown, but Polo wanted to prove they are still a force to be reckoned with as they visited Conley Field Friday night. After playing to a 0-0 tie at the half, it was the Bulldogs who would run away with this one late, as they beat the Marcos 28-0.

The first half was a defensive slugfest, as neither team could gain control of the game. In the 2nd quarter, and starting their drive on their own 10 yard line Polo looked to exploit some gaps in the Bulldog defense as Reid Taylor and Braiden Soltow kept slashing their way through the field and the Marcos controlled the ball for the entire 2nd quarter, 11 minutes and 7 seconds to be exact, however the drive came up empty at the Aquin 27 yard as the Bulldog defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs to end the half. Polo would out gain Aquin 106 yards to 75 yards in the 1st half.

The second half belonged to the Dawgs, however as on their opening drive they would march 61 yards and cap off the drive with a Jonah Diemer to Cooper Arndt 13 yard TD pass, and after a successful Zac Cummins PAT, Aquin gained the lead 7-0.

Aquin's second possession would end in a punt, but a minute later they had the ball again with 2:15 left in the 3rd quarter, and shortly into the 4th quarter the drive would reach the end zone again on a Diemer to Arndt TD pass, this time from 23 yards out, and the Cummins kick was good for a 14-0 lead.

Aquin would go on to score quickly on their next two possessions as Keegan Koester would bust through for a 49 yard TD run followed by Bryce Carlson getting in on the action with a reception from Diemer. Cummins was good on both kicks to give Aquin the 28-0 margin of victory.

On the night Aquin would out gain Polo 345 yards to 181 yards. Aquin was led by Jonah Diemer who went 11 for 16 passing for 166 yards and 3 TD's. Cooper Arndt would end the night with 4 receptions for 59 yards and 2 TD's. Keegan Koester led the Bulldog ground attack with 8 carries for 113 yards and 1 TD, while Bryce Carlson had 1 TD and 4 receptions for 75 yards. Cole Luedeking would pick up 44 yards on the ground on 3 carries.

Polo was led by Reid Taylor with a team high 80 yards rushing on 18 attempts. Braiden Soltow carried the ball 13 times for 21 yards and went 4 for 11 passing for 16 yards. Brady Webb rushed the ball 9 times for 37 yards and hauled in 2 passes for 24 yards.
