Week 8 | Stockton vs Aquin

Stockton

This was the marquee Upstate Game of the Week as both the Stockton Blackhawks and Aquin Bulldogs entered John O'Boyle Field Friday night with matching 7-0 records. The Upstate Conference Championship was up for grabs in this matchup of conference rivals.

Stockton came into the game as heavy favorites, having only given up 18 points on the season while scoring 370. Aquin on the other hand had to stave off a couple close victories early in the season to get to this point, showing their mettle as they kept winning the close games. Something had to give Friday night.

Stockton started the night with the ball, and wasted no time getting their high octane offense going as Hayden Fox found Dillon Hatfiled on a 45 yard pitch and catch for an early Blackhawk TD giving Stockton an 8-0 lead just over a minute into the game.

Aquin would answer quickly as Jonah Diemer connected with Zac Cummins for a 43 yard gain setting the Bulldogs up with 1st and goal at the Stockton 10 yard line. 3 plays later Diemer would connect with Patrick Gustafson on a perfectly timed in and out route that led to a Bulldog TD. Aquin would set up for an extra point attempt that was blocked, however a penalty on the Blackhawks moved the ball to the 1 1/2 yard line and the Bulldogs put the offense back on the field for the 2 point try and it was good, knotting the score at 8 after 1 quarter.

In the 2nd quarter it was all Stockton, as the Blackhawks would outscore the Bulldogs 30-6 to take a 38-14 lead into half time. Stockton scored on big pass plays as Fox hit Nolan Buske on 3 consecutive drives for 71 yards, 65 yards, and 56 yards out. Fox would also take things to the ground as he scored the 4th TD of the 2nd quarter from 2 yards out. Aquin would get on the board on a Diemer to Zac Cummins 66 yard TD pass.

In the 3rd quarter each team exchanged punts, but Aquin would strike first. This time Diemer connected with Bryce Carlson for a 60 yard TD pass. The 2 point try was good, closing the gap to 38-22. However, it was all Stockton from here as Fox would add another TD on the ground, this time from 47 yards out, Brian Booth would score on a 25 yard scamper, and Fox would connect on a 54 yard TD pass to Gavin Krahmer to cap the scoring for the night as the Blackhawks rolled to their 1st conference title since 2013 beating Aquin 60-22.

On the night Stockton would rack up 615 yards of total offense with 329 yards passing and 286 yards rushing. Aquin would gain 365 yards of total offense with 297 yards passing and 68 yards rushing.
