Week 7 | Aquin vs Polo
Freeport
The undefeated Aquin Bulldogs welcomed in the Polo Marcos for a homecoming battle between Upstate rivals at Conley Field.
Polo started off things fast, returning the opening kick 25 yards to set up great field position. However, on their first play the Marcos fumbled the ball and Aquin recovered. The Bulldogs wasted no time with the Marco miscue, as two plays later Tim Harrington scampered in from 25 yards out for the score. The extra point was good giving the Bulldogs the early 7-0 lead.
Polo's next possession would be much more successful as they drove down the field quickly connecting on pass plays of 12 and 32 yards. This would set up a Reid Taylor 1 yard touchdown run cutting the Bulldog lead to 7-6. Aquin would quickly go 3 and out on their next possession and the Marcos wasted no time, as Tristan Aguilar raced 55 yards for the score, putting the Marcos up 13-7 after the extra point try was good.
Aquin quickly answered the call as Harrington would score again, this time from 50 yards out giving the Bulldogs the lead 14-13. Aquin would have a missed opportunity deep in Polo territory as the Marcos forced a turnover at their own 8 yard line that would spark a 92 yard drive capped off by another Aguilar TD run, this one coming from 62 yards out pushing the Marcos to the lead 20-14.
Not to be outdone, Harrington would respond again. Taking the kickoff at his own 22 yard line, Harrington raced down the sideline 78 yards for the TD. The extra point attempt failed, leaving the game in 20-20 tie. A short while later Aquin would score again as Jonah Diemer connected with Zac Cummins from 33 yards giving the Bulldogs a 27-20 lead at the half.
The second half didn't play out as the first half did, as both defenses finally went to work forcing each other to punt several times. Aquin would put the dagger in the game as Diemer connected again, this time to Patrick Gustafson on a 7 yard TD strike extending the Bulldog lead to 34-20 that they wouldn't relinquish, resulting in the final score.
