Season Preview: West Carroll Thunder
The Thunder rebounded in 2019 as expected, going 5-5 and making the playoffs before a tough 1st round loss to top seeded Fieldcrest, 20-8. West Carroll was just 18 points away from being 8-0 heading into week 9, but those close losses helped fuel the team's confidence hanging with annual conference powers EPC and Forreston. The Thunder will enter 2021 with a new Head Coach as Teo Clark will fill the role after the exit of Matt Leitzen to Stockton. Coach Clark comes from DeSoto Central in Southaven, MS where they play in Region 1 in Class 6A. His last time coaching with the team came in the 2019 season where they went 6-5.
The Thunder will feature some key returners, but lose a lot of experience from a season ago. As in the past, they will be dependent on the senior class to help guide the ship for the younger guys. They will need to fill valuable roles at QB and both sides of the line to be competitive this spring. They will feature a schedule that could be favorable for the Thunder, but will have key matchups that could go either way in most of their games.
West Carroll has made the playoffs 6 times since their consolidation in 2005, going 2-6. West Carroll will only play a 5 game schedule this spring, with no game in week 1. The Thunder open up 2021 on the road at Galena in week 2, the same place they opened up in 2019. This game will be played at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, WI.
