Round 1: Orangeville vs Hope
Chicago -
On paper, this game looked like the Hope Academy Eagles would walk away with this game. They had played some tough competition, having played 2 4A schools, a 7A playoff team, a trip to California for another game, and they beat 2A ranked Bismarck-Henning. The Broncos, well they beat 1 playoff team, conference rival Stockton.
The Broncos did their homework, and came up with a defensive game plan to stymie the Eagles offense. Orangeville would get on the board in the 1st quarter on a 2 yard run by Garret Rodebaugh. Chase Jordan would add the two point conversion and take an 8-0 lead.
In the 2nd quarter, the Broncos would score on an 80 yard touchdown pass, but it was negated by a holding penalty, as Orangeville was eventually turned away. The 8-0 lead would hold at the half.
In the 2nd half, the Broncos got more things going, as they continued to feed the ball to Rodebaugh, mixing in Jordan and Carter Kleckler, but primarily just giving Rodebaugh the ball. That plan would work, as Rodebaugh scored his 2nd touchdown of the game. He would add the two point conversion as Orangeville took a 16-0 lead.
In the 4th quarter, Rodebaugh and Kleckler would both add touchdown runs as Orangeville extended their lead to 32-0 and shut down the Eagles all together. The score would become the final score as the Broncos scored their first playoff win since the 2008 season.
For the game, Orangeville had 326 yards rushng led by Rodebaugh with 159 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Chase Jordan chipped in with 133 yards rushing and Carter Kleckler added 1 touchdown on 40 yards rushing.
Orangeville will play host to Lena-Winslow (10-0) in the 2nd round of the playoffs next week. This will be the first time since 2001 that Orangeville has hosted a playoff game.
