Round 2 | Forreston vs Fulton
Fulton -
In a match-up featuring two of the premiere conferences in the state in Class 1A and 2A, the 11 seed Fulton Steamers would play host to the 3 seed and defending state champion Forreston Cardinals in this 2nd round contest.
Forreston didn't waste any time jumping out to a 16-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Behind the legs of AJ Christensen, Gavin Fuchs, Garret Badertscher, and Evan Kelsey, the Cardinals rolled in the first half as both Christensen and Badertscher scored 2 touchdowns each to take a 30-0 lead at the half.
The Cardinal defense was just as impressive, as they held Fulton to -27 yards in the first half, and the Steamers didn't generate a single first down. It took until the 8:15 mark of the 3rd quarter before Fulton would get their first 1st down of the game, en route to their only score of the game on a half back pass from Austin Schroeder to Bryce Grant.
Forreston would threaten two more times in the 2nd half, but an interception of a Hunter Daws pass at the 5 yard line by Grant negated that scoring opportunity, and Forreston would finish their last drive at the Fulton 2 yard line before taking knees to run out the clock.
Forreston would hold Fulton to 120 yards of total offense, with all those yards coming through the air as they cruised to a 30-6 win Saturday.
Forreston will advance to the quarterfinals and play host to the 10 seed Princeville Princes. Princeville advanced after their 2nd OT win in as many weeks, this time shutting the door on conference rival Annwan-Wethersfield 21-20.
