Week 7 | Orangeville vs Hiawatha
Kirkland -
The Broncos came into Kirkland Saturday afternoon in desperate need for a win to ensure they kept their playoff hopes alive. With a few changes to the offense the Broncos were hoping for instant success.
Hiawatha would start the game with the ball, and quickly found room to run on the Bronco defense, moving the ball 64 yards in just 1:38 of play to strike first on an Alex Barber 27 yard TD run. The PAT try was no good as the Hawks jumped in front 6-0 with 10:17 remaining in the 1st.
Then Austin Guy would take the game over both on offense and defense. Guy was transitioned to the fullback position, and would make noise quickly as he scored on each of the Broncos first 3 possessions on runs of 25, 36, and 6 as Orangeville jumped out to a 21-6 lead halfway through the 2nd quarter.
On the Broncos 4th possession, newly appointed QB Carter Kleckler found Breyton Schofield on a 34 yard TD connection to extend the Bronco lead to 28-6. Guy would find the end zone on the very next drive from 1 yard for his 4th score of the half and push the lead to 35-6 at the half.
The second half would open up the same way it ended for the Broncos, as they would drive 65 yards in just over 4:30, punctuated by Guy scoring his 5th TD of the day on a 1 yard dive to make it 41-6 with 7:17 left in the 3rd.
Hiawatha would finally answer after good field position found them starting the drive at the Bronco 44. Three minutes later QB Ty Kilcullen found the end zone on a 10 yard scamper. This cut the Bronco lead to 41-12 with 3:48 to go in the 3rd.
Just seconds later the Hawks would be back in business after recovering an Orangeville fumble at the Bronco 23. It would be Kilcullen who found pay dirt again from 5 yards out to cut the lead to 41-18 with 1:59 left in the 3rd.
The Broncos would then go back to Guy who scored two more TD's from 5 yards and 58 yards, while Hiawatha put one more score on the board on a Kilcullen to Jacob Edwards 14 yard TD pass to bring the final score to 55-24 in favor of Orangeville.
The Broncos put up 534 yards of total offense, behind 448 yards on the ground. Austin Guy had a day, as he rushed the ball 31 times for 327 yards and 7 TD's. Garret Rodebaugh would pitch in 78 yards on 10 attempts, while Brandon Raetz added 43 yards on the ground on 7 carries. Carter Kleckler went 2-2 passing for 86 yards and 1 TD connecting on both passes to Breyton Schofield.
For Hiawatha they would end the day with 349 yards of total offense. Leading the way was Alex Barber as he carried the ball 26 times for 156 yards and 1 TD. Ty Kilcullen was 12-18 passing for 111 yards and 1 TD, and ran the ball 10 times for 65 yards and 2 scores. Kyle Thompson had 5 receptions for 63 yards and 9 carries for 17 yards, while Riley O'Hern caught 3 passes for 44 yards.
