Week 4 | Amboy vs Du-Pec
Amboy -
In a battle of two teams that had yet to see the win column on this young season, Amboy played host to the Du-Pec Rivermen. Both teams have got off to slow starts as both have played the upper tier of the conference to get the season started. Tonight one of these teams would get in the win column.
Early on Du-Pec didn't look to be kind guests, as for the 1st quarter and a half the Rivermen controlled the ball and the tempo of the game. Du-Pec would strike first, in the 2nd quarter on their 27th play to break a tie and take a 6-0 lead. At that time Amboy had only ran 6 plays, but that misfortune was about to change.
Amboy would drive the ball into Rivermen territory on their ensuing possession, and facing a 4th down the Clippers delivered a first down. Just after that Amboy QB Justin Hart would scramble in from 15 yards out with 1:33 remaining in the half to tie the score at 6.
Du-Pec would get the ball back, and in an attempt to make something happen, Ryan Viel was intercepted by Andrew Gillan, who would return the ball to the Rivermen 5 yard line. From there it was Rhine time, as RB Ben Rhine rumbled his way into the end zone to give the Clippers a 12-6 lead going into halftime.
As well as Du-Pec played in the first half, it didn't matriculate into the second half as the Clipper defense took control, only allowing Du-Pec to have 7 plays end with positive yardage. Amboy would force 3 more turnovers on the night and scored twice in the 3rd quarter on their way to a 27-6 victory.
Rhine would lead the Clipper offense with 104 rushing yards, 59 of those yards came on his TD scamper to open the second half that broke the game open for Amboy as they took a 20-6 lead.
Things don't get easier for Du-Pec as they host Dakota in week 5, while Amboy will look to go for win number 2 at East Dubuque. It is safe to say that with the loss Du-Pec is virtually eliminated from the possibility of making the playoffs, as they would need to win out and hope that week 6 opponent Madison also wins 4 more games. As for Amboy, they need to get 4 more wins to have a shot at the playoffs, and with their crossover game with Milledgeville they only need the Missiles to most likely secure 3 more wins.
