Week 2 | Stockton vs Marquette

Stockton -

Another big match-up in week 2 featured the Stockton Blackhawks playing host to an out of conference opponent in the Marquette Crusaders. Marquette came into the game ranked #7 in Class 1A, while Stockton came in ranked #15. The last time these two teams met was in the 2nd round of the 2015 playoffs, which also took place in Stockton, and saw the visiting Crusaders sneak out a 21-14 win.

Marquette would strike first, after both teams were slow to get the party started as they took a 7-0 lead with about a minute left to go in the 1st quarter.

The Blackhawks would respond with a pass play in the 2nd quarter, and took an 8-7 lead in the second quarter, but four straight Marquette touchdowns proved to be too much for the Blackhawks Friday night. Stockton managed only 158 yards of offense, while giving up 372 yards. Stockton quarterback Luke Huschitt threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns, but was intercepted three times that would prove to be too much to overcome. Marquette would cruise to 35-16 victory.
