Week 1 | Polo vs Orangeville
Polo -
What we billed as our Upstate Game of the Week was a week 9 rematch from last year, that lifted Polo to a 6-3 mark and a trip to the playoffs, while Orangeville fell to 4-5, missing the playoffs in a turn around year. This time around both teams had a lot of expectations coming into 2017, with both teams trying to make the playoffs in a very tough Upstate conference. This game would not disappoint the casual fan.
The Marcos would get the party started on opening night, as Reid Taylor found room on his way to a 57 yard TD run to opening the scoring for the game. This would give Polo an early 7-0 lead, one they would carry into halftime in a very low scoring first half.
The Broncos would respond to open the 2nd half as Austin Guy punched it in for 6 from 6 yards out, but a failed 2 point try left the Marcos ahead 7-6. Polo would answer back on a 13 yard TD pass from Braiden Soltow, and with a missed PAT kick, they would extend their lead to 13-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Guy would answer with a 70 yard kickoff return for a TD, but another failed 2 point try left the Marcos clinging to the lead at 13-12 heading into the final quarter.
Polo would continue to pound the rock, as Taylor found pay dirt once again, this time on an 8 yard run to give the Marcos all the separation they needed in a tightly contested 20-12 win for Polo.
For the game, Reid led the Marcos with 92 yards rushing on 16 attempts with his 2 TD runs. Soltow would finish the game going 6-7 passing for 62 yards and 1 TD. The Broncos were led by Guy, who was 1-8 throwing the ball for 45 yards, and added a game high 128 yards rushing on 22 attempts with 1 TD to go along with his 70 yard kickoff return. Garrett Rodebaugh would pitch in for the Broncos with 52 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
