Week 6 | Polo vs Milledgeville
Polo
The Upstate Game of the Week saw the Polo Marcos hosting the Milledgeville Missiles on Friday night. With both teams clawing to get to that playoff eligible mark of 5 wins, this game had a lot riding on it, along with a big rivalry game at that.
This game was tight throughout, as Polo finally hit pay dirt in the 2nd quarter for the first points of the night. Milledgeville was forced to punt on 4th down. On the return, Polo's Reid Taylor settled under the ball, cut to the outside, and raced down the left sideline for a 51 yard return before being knocked out at the 5 yard line. The very next play saw Tristan Aguilar burst through for a 5 yard TD run giving Polo a 6-0 lead.
The score would remain the same throughout the 3rd quarter, as Milledgeville squandered chances after a few Polo turnovers. The Marco defense came up tough, as Milledgville found themselves in the red zone on the Marco 19 yard line. 4th down was the Missiles nemesis Friday night as the Marco defense kept shutting them down.
With about 10 minutes left in the game the final blow was delivered. Polo ran an option to play to the right, sweeping Aguilar around the outside edge as he found green grass and scampered in from 43 yards out. The extra point was good and Polo was up 13-0 and would hold from there on homecoming night.
Aguilar would lead the Marcos on the night with 83 yards rushing and scoring both touchdowns in a very strong effort that gave Polo their 4th win of the season. Milledgeville suffered only their 2nd loss of the season.
