Week 4 | Amboy at Forreston

The Northwest Game of the Week saw the Clippers of Amboy come to town to take on the heavily favored Forreston Cardinals.

Forreston was celebrating their homecoming, and were in a festive mood of welcoming fans all night long. When the game started, they wasted no time in giving Amboy another NUIC welcome party. Amboy received the ball to start the game and the Forreston defense came ready early, forcing Amboy to punt after just 3 plays. Forreston would start their first drive of the game from Amboy's 30 yard line after a big punt return from Anthony Christensen. Just 42 seconds later, Forreston found themselves on the board with a 4 yard TD run from Lane Henneman.

Less than 3 minutes later, Forreston forced Amboy QB Jordan Hochstatter to fumble, recovering the ball at the Amboy 49 yard line. Less than a minute later, Forreston was back in the end zone as Christensen would take it in from 25 yards out, putting Forreston up 14-0.

Amboy would go on a short 2 minute drive and was forced to punt for the second time. Forreston's third drive lasted just 39 seconds, as on the 2nd play from scrimmage Gavin Fuchs would bulldoze his way through an Amboy defender on his way to a 78 yard TD run and the rout was on, as Forreston opened up to a 21-0 lead with 3:22 remaining in the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter would see much of the same as Henneman would get his 2nd TD run of the night from 8 yards out, followed by a Hunter Daws 7 yard TD run, and capped off with a Matt Akins 1 yard TD dive springing Forreston to a 42-0 halftime lead.

Garett Badertscher would add a 1 yard TD run in the 3rd, extending Forreston's lead to 49-0. Amboy would get on the board in the 4th quarter as Nolan Lawmorie-Dickey would punch it in from 2 yards out with time winding down. On the ensuing kickoff, and seconds ticking off the clock, Evan Kelsey would break free from the 5 yard line and take it to the house on a 95 yard kick return as time expired, giving Forreston a 55-7 victory on homecoming.

Forreston finished the night with 396 yards of total offense with 371 yards coming on the ground. Gavin Fuchs led the Cardinal attack with 7 carries for 174 yards 1 TD and 1 reception for 25 yards. Anthony Christensen had just 4 carries for 50 yards and a TD. Lane Henneman had 8 carries for 11 yards and 2 TD's. Matt Akins finished with 44 yards on 10 carries and 1 TD, while Garett Badertscher had 5 carries for 20 yards and a score, and Hunter Daws finished with 1 carry for 7 yards 1 TD and 1-1 passing for 25 yards.

Amboy finished the night with 112 yards of total offense, 72 yards on the ground and 40 yards through the air. Amboy was led by Ben Rhine who had 14 carries for 30 yards. Travis Eames had 7 carries for 25 yards.
