West Carroll entered the 1st round of the Class 2A playoffs for only the 5th time in school history, and were in search of their 2nd career playoff victory as they travelled to Minonk to take on the #7 seed Fieldcrest Knights.
This game would prove to be a battle early on in the contest, as West Carroll scored in the 1st quarter to take an 8-0 lead early. The score would remain that way until just over 2 minutes left in the first half as the Thunder extended the lead to 16-0 heading into the half.
West Carroll would once again find the end zone late in the 3rd quarter to take a 22-0 lead into the 4th quarter, but in the 4th quarter the Thunder rolled, as they put up 3 more scores in route to a 40-0 win to move them onto the 2nd round next week.
On the day the Thunder would amass 353 yards of total offense, as they threw for 120 yards and rushed for 233 yards on the day. Leading the way on the ground was Kaleb Plattenberger as he rushed the ball 19 times for 84 yards and 1 TD and hauled in 2 passes for 39 yards and another score. Kody Plattenberger was 7-13 passing for 120 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT and rushed the ball 10 times for 67 yards and 1 TD. Kaleb Hartman ran the ball 12 times for 59 yards and 1 TD and caught 1 pass for 17 yards. Cory Simpson also pitched in with 3 receptions for 43 yards and 1 TD.
West Carroll will host the # 2 seed GCMS Falcons next week, as GCMS advances on following their 50-14 win over EPC Saturday.
