Week 4 | Le-Win vs Galena

September 16, 2017

Galena-

Tonight an undefeated #1 state ranked Le-Win team came to Galena in hopes of keeping the Panther Train rolling, and that they did. In a game that has always been a huge back and forth rivalry, dominated in recent history by Le-Win, it was severely one sided. The Panthers were a lot to handle for the Galena Pirates, and it showed as they pulled away for a 54-12 victory Friday night.

The Panthers started the scoring after recovering a fumble on Galena’s first possession. Le-Win proceeded to march down the field and Sean Ormiston (8 carries, 40 yards) punched in a 1 yard touchdown run. The Panthers managed to score within the first 2 and a half minutes of the game, up a touchdown in the blink of an eye.

The Pirates chalked up their first score on the next possession relying on the arm of Mickey Lorento, as he threw a beautiful pass to Damian Stephanopoulos for a 27 yard touchdown. The passing attack seemed to catch Le-Win a little off guard, and coach Ric Arand made the proper adjustments as the Pirates only managed 50 yards in the first half.

After the Galena score, the weekly Valentine’s Day celebration began; Rahveon Valentine’s day that is. Valentine absolutely tore the field up managing to rip off 157 yards on just 10 carries. On top of that, he had rushing touchdowns on back to back possessions in the 1st quarter, making the score 23-6 in favor of Le-Win. The next possession saw Gaige Schwartz rip off a 37 yard touchdown run. The next possession for Le-Win was again dominated by Rahveon Valentine, who scored from 27 yards out, making it 38-6 in favor of the Panthers.

The next Pirate possession allowed for another touchdown by Rahveon Valentine, this time by way of a 50 yard pick six. This put the Panther’s up 46-6 and the running clock rule was put into effect in the first half.

The only scoring in the second half for Le-Win came on a drive that allowed junior running back Keegan Gyland to get some quality carries. He carried the ball on this drive 3 times for 46 yards, and capped it off with a 3 yard TD after breaking loose for a 40 yard scamper. The Panther’s finished the game with 326 yards on the ground, and 24 through the air. They scored on every possession but 2, showing that they are without a doubt the best team in the state.
