Round 1 | Milledgeville vs Marquette

October 30, 2016

Milledgeville saw their season start to suffer after a 4-1 start as they dropped their next 3 games and needed a must win game in week 9 to clinch a playoff spot. They did just that and earned the last seed into the Class 1A IHSA State Playoffs. They would be on the road to take on the #1 seed Ottawa Marquette Crusaders.

This game was a defensive struggle throughout as neither team could find the end zone, or any points for that matter in the first half as the game remained tied at 0.

Midway through the 3rd quarter Marquette finally struck to take a 6-0 lead. Early in the 4th quarter the Missiles answered with a TD of their own to tie the game at 6.

With under a minute left in the game the Crusaders marched their way to the Missiles 25 yard line. This set up a 35 yard field goal try with 20 seconds left in the game that Marquette would connect on to seal the victory 9-6 in this 1st round game.

Milledgville ends their season at 5-5, but played toe to toe with the #3 state ranked Crusaders throughout. Look for Milledgeville to build off this game for next season.
