Week 9 | Polo vs Orangeville

October 24, 2016

Friday night was all about NUIC teams trying to win to get into the playoffs.  This was another great matchup that saw one team going for 6 wins and a better seed and the other trying to win to get in.

Polo would jump out to a quick 20-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter in this game thanks to the Marco ground game.  Tristen Aguilar would score from 3 and 6 yards out and then Brady Webb scored from 32 yards out.  Orangeville would fire back late in the 1st half on an unbelievable TD reception by Caden Getz from Austin Guy from 30 yards out to make the score 20-6 at halftime.

Orangeville would open the 2nd half and drive the ball deep into Marco territory, but a 4th down play would fail as Orangeville turned the ball over on downs at the Marco 8 yard line.  Aguilar would quickly respond as he raced 92 yards up the right sideline for a Marco score making it 27-6 in favor of the Broncos.

Later on Polo would score again on a 48 yard TD pass from Braiden Soltow to Mathew Cheeseman to extend the lead to 34-6.  Then the Broncos would respond as Austin Guy would score from 5 yards out and the 2 point conversion was good, making the score 34-14.

In the 4th quarter Aguilar would score again, this time from 47 yards out to seal the Marco victory 41-14.  Orangeville would drive deep into Marco territory again, but turned the ball over on downs at the Marco 5 yard line as Polo would take a knee to end the game.

For Polo Tristen Aguilar had 12 carries for 199 yards and 4 TD's.  Brady Webb had 2 carries for 34 yards and 1 TD.  Soltow was 7-12 passing for 103 yards with 1 TD and had 10 carries for 64 yards. Cheeseman had 3 receptions for 73 yards and 1 TD.

For Orangeville Austin Guy was 10-26 passing for 197 yards and 1 TD and ran 25 times for 83 yards and a TD.  Caden Getz had 6 receptions for 140 yards and 1 TD and Carter Kleckler had 3 receptions for 23 yards.

Polo will travel to Dakota in the 1st round of the IHSA state playoffs Saturday afternoon.  With the loss the Broncos will miss out on the playoffs, but have a lot to look forward to going into next season.
